The Types of Mezzanine Level

There are more applications for a mezzanine level than one might think. Oftentimes, a mezzanine floor is associated with providing additional storage in a warehouse or industrial environment; there are far more options than this though, and mezzanines are more common than you might think.

Here at Doity Engineering Ltd, we provide mezzanine levels for a variety of different customers and draw from our experience to detail the main types of mezzanine level in our latest blog post.

Office

An office mezzanine level is an installation that can drastically improve your office space, at far less cost than moving to new premises. They are also often less obvious than one might think and can incorporate modern and contemporary design to match the interior style of the existing space.

A protected staircase is required in an office mezzanine floor, which means they can even be an inconspicuous choice and the mezzanine integrates seamlessly into your office space.

Retail

As is true with office mezzanine floors, it can often be surprising which installations are added after-the-fact in a retail space as the designers often work closely with the store owners to ensure the appearance is fitting with that of the space overall.

A retail mezzanine is perfect for a range of different uses, including storage space for stock, an office that is within the store but not in the ‘shopping space’ itself, and even more display space to be able to accommodate more products.

One of the main benefits of mezzanine platforms in retail situations is that customers are often not happy when a shop they have been going to for a long time moves to larger premises in a different location to accommodate growth, but a mezzanine allows this expansion to take place within the store customers have grown to love and at a fraction of the cost of moving.

Residential

In modern interior design, it has become popular to make the most of a mezzanine level in order to enhance a domestic space. This is especially popular as we see cities become increasingly populated and the price of housing skyrocket. A mezzanine floor can help break up the space of a studio apartment, can add an extra layer of functionality to the high ceilings of a converted warehouse, and much more.

Storage/Production

The most obvious application for a mezzanine level, additional square footage for storage and/or production in a warehouse or industrial setting is a hot commodity that can be catered to by building up and making the most of the volume of your space. Extensions and expansions can be complicated for a quickly growing business, but a mezzanine is key as it is quick and easy to install can be adapted on an (almost) modular basis.

The most common mezzanine platforms in warehouses are either storage platforms or an additional level to accommodate production methods. We are now also beginning to see multi-tier mezzanine floors in particularly large warehouses that can theoretically help treble the floor space of your industrial premises.

Convenient and Cost-Effective

In essence, mezzanine levels are extremely widely used in a whole host of industries and it comes down to a few simple factors. These installations are quick, relatively hassle-free, inexpensive in comparison to the alternatives, and can help a business accommodate growth without the complications of methods such as extensions and relocation.
